Structured Data Intro
Structured data is a way for search engines to understand a website and the data on a website better. The most common structured data vocabulary is schema.org. Schema.org is brought into life by the big search engines, these being Yahoo!, Bing, Google and Yandex. The aim of this collaboration is to define a way for webmasters and companies to embed structure to their website.
Implementing Structured Data
The implementation of structured data is straight forward and the best results are to be achieved by embedding it into the HTML. Any website, with or without Content Management Systems (CMS), can apply structured data to their text, images and even videos.
Why implementing Structured Data
Last year Google gave a glimpse on how they see the web is going. They even coined the tag line "It is not about strings, but things", which indicate that they are already moving away from just 'strings' and want to look at items, objects. Yes, the web is really going to be about objects and not about just loose content anymore. In order to stay on top of the game and to ensure that the larger search engines know the best what happens on your website, you should structre your data.
